Privacy Policy

Last updated October 5, 2026

MarkWell helps K-12 teachers grade student work. Teachers and schools are our users; students do not have accounts. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Student information

When a teacher uses MarkWell, they provide student names (and optionally a school student ID) for their roster, and upload images of student work. We process this information only to provide the service to that teacher or school — reading and grading the work, producing feedback and reports — and for no other purpose.

Teacher account information

We collect your name, email address, and password (stored only as a salted hash), or your Google account identity if you sign in with Google. We also record how you adjust grades, which MarkWell uses to learn your grading style. You can view and edit that summary in Settings.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run MarkWell, each bound to use data only to provide their service to us:

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and uploaded files are encrypted at rest. Access to student records is limited to the teacher who owns the class and their school’s administrators, and access is logged.

Retention and deletion

Teachers can delete students, classes, assignments, and student work at any time; deletion is permanent. School administrators can set an automatic retention period. When you delete your account, your personal workspace and its data are deleted. Classes that belong to a school stay with the school.

Your rights

Parents and eligible students who want to review or correct education records should contact their school, which controls those records. Teachers can contact us to access, export, or delete their information.
